It’s Good Karma Wednesday!! What’s Good Karma Wednesday? I’ll explain…Let’s take a journey, kids, back to 2002…
I have a secret for you; I am a pretty dadgum good writer – I’ll give you all a moment to pick your jaws up off the floor. I remember having a diary as a little girl, so the writing adventures started young with me. The only differences between my diaries then and now are the mediums (paper vs. blog) and the names of boys (not telling you those! HA!) I’d like to say my spelling has improved since I was younger, but that would be a big, fat lie. My love for writing increased as I grew and by high school I was exploring creative writing. My senior year of high school, I decided to take my flare for words and my determination to make the world a more sparkly place to a new level. I created Good Karma Wednesday for my closest circle of friends.
Good Karma Wednesday (GKW) began small. Each week I would write a short poem about friendship. Some of these works were sappy, others were funny, and some just flat out sucked. For those works of lesser values, I would add candy bars to sweeten the read. So every Wednesday I came to Vocal Music class armed with copies of new poem, favorite candies of my friends (just in case!), and excitement. Well, word of GKW (and candy) slowly got out, so I expanded the reach. I don’t remember the exact number of people, but I know at one point I had to start buying bags of candy in bulk and sweet talk the principal’s secretary into letting me use the school copier. Karma was spreading like wild fire! I loved it. For me, it was fun and meaningful. Once a week I was adding something good to my world, something genuine, and something that I hoped inspired those around me. I may not write a weekly poem anymore, but I still practice good karma on the daily. Once and awhile someone will send me a message saying “Happy Good Karma Wednesday!” and it warms my glittery heart.
Now, let’s fast forward to today; I sent a little karma into the world in the form of a Pay-It-Forward. It is cliché, but I paid for the person behind me at Starbucks. Bad karma tried to spoil my plan, but I did not let it. When I got to the drive-thru I was the only car; so I casually waited in the drive-thru until someone pulled in behind me. Yup, I’m a determined problem solver. I told the barista my plan and asked her to tell the lady it was Good Karma Wednesday, hoping they both will be inspired and do the same one day for someone else.
So what will you do today? It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture, cost money, or use a lot of time. Pick one thing, one person, and make a difference. If Justin Timberlake can bring sexy back, we can bring GKW back! As a bonus, I am giving you a link to my “happy zen” song; this song is not only my good luck song, but always makes me feel centered (don’t fret, it is not by Britney Spears). And if you listen to the lyrics, it only compliments GKW. What a happy accident 🙂 Enjoy!
I heard a rumor the sun might make an appearance today, so make today sparkle!
